PM Modi Questioned Congress’s Culture

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday offered his tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on the 89th anniversary of Dandi March, and also questioned Congress for its culture which he described as completely opposite to the Gandhian thoughts and principles.

In his blog titled – When a handful of salt shook an Empire! – PM Modi called the Congress culture as an “anti-thesis of Gandhian thought.” Modi quoted this in his blog to prove that Bapu also wanted to disband Congress after 1947.

To challenge the authority of the British and the unfair Salt Laws, Mahatma Gandhi had launched the Dandi March or Dandi Satyagraha on March 12, 1930.

"In many of his works, Gandhiji said that he does not believe in inequality and caste divisions. Sadly, the Congress has never hesitated from dividing society. The worst caste riots and anti-Dalit massacres happened under Congress rule," PM Modi said in an article penned on the 89th anniversary of the Dandi March.

Modi even praised Sardar Patel’s organisational skills and pointed out that he played a key role in organising the Dandi March against the British rule.

“Did you know who had a key role in the planning of the Dandi March? The great Sardar Patel. The organisational man that he was, Sardar Patel planned every minute aspect of the Dandi March, down to the last detail,” Modi said in his blog.

"Today, 89 years ago, Bapu embarked on the iconic Dandi March. Though aimed at protesting unfair Salt Laws, Dandi March shook the foundations of colonial rule and became a strong symbol of fighting injustice and inequality," PM Modi said.

PM Modi also talked about governance and how the his government follows Gandhiji's teachings to alleviate poverty and bring prosperity.

Interestingly, on the other side, the Congress is hosting its working committee meeting in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, the home state of both Mahatma Gandhi and Narendra Modi, after a gap of 58 years. The Congress leadership is likely to discuss party’s strategy for the April-May Lok Sabha elections.

Congress President Rahul Gandhi, former party chief Sonia Gandhi, general secretary Priyanka Gandhi, former PM Manmohan Singh along with other party leaders and workers visited Mahatma Gandhi’s Sabarmati Ashram where they attended a prayer meet.
