Kerala Govt Moves Supreme Court Against CAA

Author : Odisha Today Bureau | Posted on: 2020-01-14

Kerala government has moved Supreme Court (SC) against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) saying it has violated Articles 14, 21 and 25 of the Constitution. It has also argued that the act is against basic principles of secularism.

With this, the top court has about 60 petitions for hearing against the act. It is worthwhile to note that the Kerala government had, earlier, passed a resolution demanding that CAA be scrapped immediately.

Moreover, it was supported by Congress party and the 2 parties had also organized a joint protest against the act, which Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan described it as ‘against the Muslim community’.
