The sitting MPs and MLAs of the ruling BJD from the constituencies going to polls in the first phase were kept in dark about their future as the final decision was taken by party supremo and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on their nomination.

Voices of dissent was heard from several other areas where the ruling party contemplated to deny tickets to sitting MPs and MLAs and replace them with candidates who joined the party only recently. All the party seats were announced yesterday. Some of the leaders showed their dissatisfaction and immediately resigned from the party.

Yesterday, Kusum Tete, resigned from the post of Sundargarh Special Development Council (SDC) Chairperson, and today she resigned from the primary membership of the party after being denied tickets for the Assembly polls.

Tete sent her resignation letter to BJD Supremo and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressing displeasure over allotment of tickets.

“I was ignored by the party even after sincerely working for five years. Patnaik’s declaration of 33 per cent reservation for women in Lok Sabha election is completely false,” said Tete adding that she will anyway contest in the upcoming elections.

Worth mentioning, BJD yesterday announced name of former Congress MLA Jogesh Singh for the Sundergarh seat.

Besides, BJD Kalahandi General Secretary Pramod Patnaik also resigned from the party expressing dissatisfaction over distribution of tickets for Junagarh constituency.  BJD gave party ticket for the seat to Dibya Shankar Mishra yesterday.

Other sitting MPs and MLAs who resigned recently from BJD are Balabhadra Majhi, Nabarangpur MP and MLA from Nilgiri, Sukanta Nayak.
