Budget carrier IndiGo has achieved an unparalleled foot on Thursday when it revealed that it has become the first domestic airline to have 200 aircraft in its fleet.

According an internal communication, four new aircraft have joined the fleet recently, including town Airbus A320 CEO (VT-IKA and VT-IKB) and two A320 neo (VT IZK AND VT-IZI), thereby taking the fleet count to 200 and number of deliveries to 226.

And in just 3 more years it has been able to double its fleet size which is definitely a laudable achievement, particularly, if one considers, the fact that some of its competitors are suffering from huge losses in their balance sheets and are m00ting the idea of selling down a part of their existing fleet.

IndiGo currently offers over 1,200 flights to 63 domestic destinations, which include 49 domestic and 14 international ones with additional bases at Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad,Kolkata, Mumbai, Jaipur and Ahmedabad. In January 2011, IndiGo received a license to operate international flights after completing five years of operations. IndiGo's first international service was launched between New Delhi and Dubai on 1st September 2011.

The airline was founded as a private company by Rahul Bhatia of InterGlobe Enterprises and Rakesh Gangwal, a United States-based expatriate Indian in 2006. It took delivery of its first aircraft in July 2006 and commenced operations a month later. The airline became the largest Indian carrier in passenger market share in 2012. And the company went public in November 2015.

InterGlobe Aviation-operating the 'IndiGo' brand, has entered into the list of the top-50 most valuable companies in terms of market capitalization following a sharp surge in its stock price post listing.

IndiGo with an m-cap of Rs. 42,684 crores stood at 47th position in overall m-cap ranking on the BSE. The company climbed 11 positions in the m-cap pecking order since its debut on the bourses on November 10, 2015.
