Making a commitment towards nurturing innovation and skill development in the country, Boeing on Monday announced that it is launching a Boeing University Innovation Leadership Development (BUILD) programme for university students, faculty and early-stage start-ups.

“The BUILD program will help innovators convert their ideas into viable business offerings that have the potential to shape the future of Indian aerospace and defence,” the company said at the launch.

BUILD is Boeing India's unique aerospace innovation, leadership and talent development program; designed for students and budding entrepreneurs. It aims to help the young innovators of today shape their ideas into disruptions of tomorrow.

Open to student teams and new entrepreneurs across India, finalist teams for the BUILD program will be mentored by subject matter and industry experts as part of an intensive learning program, to shape and refine their ideas. BUILD will focus on identifying student innovators and budding start-ups and transform their ideas into sellable value propositions. The selected teams will also get the opportunities to refine and pitch their final propositions to Boeing and its connected ecosystem of investors, incubators and entrepreneurs.

Boeing India president Salil Gupte said that a close partnership with India’s academia and growing entrepreneurial ecosystem has the potential to reimagine the future of aerospace for the world.

“With BUILD, we are creating a platform for students and entrepreneurs to not only benefit from our vast experience and partner networks, but also develop their ideas into path-breaking innovations,” Mr. Gupte said.

Boeing said it has partnered with seven incubators — IIT-Delhi, IIT-Gandhinagar, IIT-Bombay, IIT-Madras, IISc Bangalore, T-Hub Hyderabad and KIIT Bhubaneshwar — to select finalists for the BUILD boot camps.

The shortlisted teams will compete at a regional level and the finalists will then pitch their ideas to a selection panel of subject-matter experts on Boeing Innovation Day, to be held in September.

Throughout the programme, Boeing mentors and industry experts will interact with the finalists to refine ideas and develop their entrepreneurial skills, the company said.

Submission of Ideas

Applicants can submit their ideas in the fields of aerospace, autonomous vehicles, advanced manufacturing, augmented and virtual reality, analytics (artificial intelligence and machine learning), materials, robotics and internet of things and apply to the BUILD program.

Deadline for the submissions is June 10.
