India Slams Pakistan at UNHRC for Its ‘False Narrative’ on ‘Atrocities’ in J&K

India addressed a UN meet on Tuesday countering Pakistan's repeated claims of human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir. Saying that Pakistan is using a "fabricated narrative", India in a stern worded statement accused the neighbouring country of making "false allegations."

Pakistan, which has been making unsuccessful attempts to flag Kashmir at various international forums, today claimed at the UN Human Rights Council that it should investigate the situation in Jammu and Kashmir and highlighted the arrests of political leaders in the state. Pakistan foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi even cited a "nuclearised" Southeast Asia.

The Indian delegation yesterday was being led by Ajay Bisaria, the High Commissioner expelled by Pakistan as part of a five-point plan to downgrade ties with India, and Vijay Thakur Singh, Secretary East, who is addressing the gathering.

Secretary (East) in the External Affairs Ministry Vijay Thakur Singh, in a clear reference to Pakistan, said those who speak on the human rights of minorities in other countries are "trampling upon them at will in their own country. They cry victim when they actually are the perpetrators".

There was a need to call out those who are misusing the United Nations Human Rights Council for "malicious political agenda under the garb of human rights", she said, rejecting Pakistan's charges against India on the Kashmir issue at the 42nd session of the UNHRC.

India has always said that Kashmir is a bilateral issue and told the international community that the changes made in the status of Jammu and Kashmir is an internal matter, which most nations have accepted.

Singh said the recent legislative measures taken by India in Jammu and Kashmir were within the framework of its Constitution.

In an apparent reference to the Pakistani delegation led by Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Singh said, "One delegation has given a running commentary with offensive rhetoric of false allegations and concocted charges against my country."

"Those who abet, finance and support terrorism in any form on territory under their control are in fact the worst violators of human rights," she said.
