Telangana Chief Minister K .Chandrashekhar Rao on Sunday directed officials to ensure that the accused in woman veterinarian's gang-rape and murder are tried in a fast track court and the culprits get stringent punishment.

Breaking his silence over the brutal rape and murder of a woman veterinarian near the outskirts of Hyderabad on November 27, the Chief Minister expressed his deep anguish.

KCR, as Rao is popularly known, decided to set up a fast track court to deal with the case. He asked the officials concerned to take measures in this regard.

According to the Chief Minister’s Office, he was upset that the perpetrators of such heinous crimes are living amidst us. He termed the incident gruesome and inhuman.

Tension prevailed near the residence of the victim’s family on Sunday as residents locked the gated community to prevent politicians, police, and media from entering the place.

According to the police, the 26-year-old veterinarian was assaulted by the four men near Hyderabad on Wednesday night. The men dragged her into the bushes near a toll booth and took turns to rape her till she fell unconscious. They switched off her phone and poured whiskey in her mouth to silence her. Later, they strangled her, wrapped her body in a blanket and set it on fire under a bridge 27 km away.

The four men, identified as Mohammad Areef, Jollu Shiva, Jollu Naveen, and Chintakunta Chennakeshavulu, were booked under Sections 376D (gangrape), 302 (murder),201 (destroying evidence) of the Indian Penal Code. Areef (25), who works as a driver, is the prime accused in the Telangana rape-murder case. The other three accused work as lorry cleaners.

He noted that in the case relating to rape and murder of a minor girl in Warangal, setting up of the fast track court ensured the verdict in 56 days, and in in the young veterinarian's case too, the verdict should come quickly.

The Chief Minister announced that the government would extend all the necessary help and support to members of the victim's family.
