Serena Williams today gained victory against the world no.1 Simona Halep by 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 to storm into the quarterfinals of the 2019 Australian Open at Melbourne Park. William, ranked 16th, could not play the Australian Open last year following the birth of her daughter. Last year she played the French Open but was pulled out in the fourth round before reaching the finals. In Melbourne, her form looks stunning which led her to qualify for the quarters by defeating Simona Halep who is 10-years junior to Williams.
Simona Halep started well when she broke Williams in the first game of the match. But it was Williams who showed her grip over the match thereafter as she won the first set 6-1. Halep won the second set by breaking Williams twice in the process. William did not lose hope; she fought back and seized the third set and set her way to the quarterfinal. Williams is chasing her 8th Australian Open title.
