29-year-old Anand is not the one to let go of his dreams. It’s only his determination and passion that helped him become India’s first wheel chair bodybuilder after suffering from a life threatening spinal cancer at the age of fifteen. Anand found his passion for bodybuilding when he was thirteen and won his first title in the same year. But two years later he was diagnosed with cancer. He had to undergo immediate surgery to save his life which left him paralyzed from neck down with only his hands having some mobility.
Ananda decide that he will not be defeated by his condition and started training yet again; all the while being confined to his wheelchair. He has pursued his passion with incredible fervor and soon began competing as India’s First Wheelchair Bodybuilder.
He soon started winning titles and today his tally consists of three Mr. India titles, twelve Mr. Punjab titles and twenty-seven other major titles.
He said, “Since I was admitted in the hospital, no one was telling me what was going on. And then one day, mummy came, and had tears in her eyes, I asked her why she was crying, and she said you’ll be on the wheelchair now. I told don’t worry, at least I’ll be in front of your eyes.”
But Anand was not one to stop there in the most difficult situation in his life, he stayed positive. In a world where many fully abled individuals fail to realize their potential, Anand is truly an inspiration. In Anand’s own words, “To succeed, turn your weakness into your strength.”
